Time Change This Weekend!

You know the old saying: spring forward, fall back. It helps us to remember how Daylight Saving Time affects our clocks twice each year.

During Daylight Saving Time, which begins in the spring, clocks are turned forward an hour, shifting an hour of light from the morning to the evening. When Daylight Saving Time ends in the fall, clocks are set back an hour and Standard Time resumes.

According to the present schedule—determined by the Energy Policy Act of 2005—the United States springs forward at 2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday in March, and falls back at 2:00 a.m. on the first Sunday in November.

The term “to fall back” suggests that one must set the clocks one hour back when DST ends. It is associated with the fall (autumn) season because the DST schedule ends in the fall. The fall season and the end of daylight saving time mark a period when the days become darker, in that there are less hours of sunlight during the day, particularly in the afternoons or evenings, as winter soon approaches.

About the Race

The Capital One Bank Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot is the largest Thanksgiving Day event of its kind in the country.  Starting from humble beginnings 43 years ago at White Rock Lake, it has grown into the undisputed “Way to Begin Thanksgiving Day” for thousands of locals as well as those who travel to share in our great event.

The Trot tradition has now extended through generations of participants who celebrate the holiday with grandparents, relatives, friends and their youngest who we look to see with their own families in the years ahead.  The Dallas YMCA supports strong kids, strong families and strong communities – all of which are represented at the Trot.  Participants are also helping to support important YMCA programs.  We look forward to seeing you – bring a big group! – to this year’s Capital One Bank Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot.

This year participants have the option of being timed on either the 8 mile or the 5K events.
